Harris Branch pond, Austin

How rare a species is in Travis County: the share of active local birders who log it in a typical year.

• Common · over 50%1 pt
• Fairly common · 20%–50%2 pts
• Uncommon · 5%–20%4 pts
• Rare · 1%–5%8 pts
• Very rare · under 1%16 pts

Rarity points add up each species once, so a few rare birds can outscore a long list of common ones.

Rarity is over the whole year: a migrant that's easy to find for a week or two can still be rare.
